urbanization & the streets are alive
With the Industrial Revolution in full force, and cities turning to industry, many of them became more urban as time passed. Cities had turned to cost efficient housing, making apartments to house many people. As more workers flooded in (many being immigrants) the cities needed more housing, and began to take on a more urban form. The population had skyrocketed, and places needed to compensate. Workers needed housing, so factory owners would build cheap complexes for their workers. The amount of cities had increased as well, as America turned more and more to urbanization. There were drawbacks to the constant urbanization; as spaces became cramped, dirty, and living conditions became harsh. As much as this was tragic, in the grand scheme of things, urbanization was a plus to America as a whole. It provided the US with new cities, and a new way of life, that compensated for the continuous growth of industry.
